Top Designers - Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs was born in 1963, in New York City. As a young boy he learned to knit from his grandmother, whom he calls his biggest influence. Jacobs attended the high school of Art & Design and while studying he worked as a stock boy at a New York popular boutique.

After finishing high school, Jacobs continued his education as Parsons School of Design. During his studies he designed and sold his first line of hand knit sweaters and won three significant awards.

The Marc Jacobs first collection was designed for the "Sketchbook" label. In 1984 he also formed a partnership with Robert Duffy; the two are still in business today. In 1986, backed by the Kashiyama USA, Inc. Jacobs designed his first collection bearing the Marc Jacobs label. A year later Jacobs became the youngest designer to receive one of the fashion industry's highest honors the CFDA Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent. Jacobs's signature looks include strong bright colors, layers, stripes, bows, buttons and oversize prints; he was called by "Women's Wear Daily" the Guru of Grunge.

Since 1998 Marc Jacobs is serving as Artistic Director of the Louis Vuitton fashion house, he created the company's first Ready-to-Wear line and collaborated on the popular Vuitton graffiti bags, he still designs his own clothing lines.
